Positano is a great base to explore other parts of the Amalfi coast. Although Positano is a really popular destination, we believe there are other parts of the Amalfi coast that are certainly worth experiencing too! Each of these destinations could be a whole trip in itself, but if you are short on time or wish to spend more time in Positano then we would recommend at least a day trip! Here are our lists of the best Positano Day Trips.
Positano Day Trips: Capri
A day trip to Capri is so easy from Positano! With ferries frequently running why not take a day to enjoy this island and its designer shopping and rugged landscape.
Any ferry operator on the beach in Positano will have tickets to Capri, pop down and get your tickets and then jump on the Ferry!
Tips for a Capri Day trip:
- Mount Solaro: Take the cable car up and walk around the top!
- Ana Capri: home to some beautiful villas that have turned into Museums, take the time here to walk around and enjoy.
- Capri: Walk around the shops and take in what Capri has to offer. Stop for a spot of lunch, or a Gelato, or three?
- Blue Grotto: Perhaps Capri’s most iconic sight. A grotto with Electric blue water from an underwater tunnel that captures the sunlight and turns it blue!
How to get around?
- We recommend using the bus to get around, it’s cheap and convenient! You can get pretty much anyway just using the bus! Locals were really helpful at pointing out where to go and how to get around the best.
Positano Day Trips: Amalfi & Atrani
One of the best Positano Day Trips would have to include the famous town of Amalfi, but don’t forget about Atrani, only a 5 minute walk away from Amalfi and offering something very different! A day trip to Amalfi and Atrani is also a great option for a day trip. Although you could extend your trip here. If you prefer to stay in Positano a day trip is most certainly worth it. You can walk from Amalfi to Atrani in 5 minutes, so we would recommend you visiting both.
Amalfi
Shopping
The best place to get souvenirs and to shop for any itialian goods. We loved exploring and slowly strolling the streets here.
Gelato
We found the best Gelato shop with some crazy flavors in Amalfi town. All of the Gelato shops are great so depending on your preference walk around and hunt for the best flavour!
AMalfi Cathedral
Beautiful architecture and a very important Cathedral! It is dedicated to the Apostle Saint Andrew whose relics are kept here. It is free to walk around and you should not miss climbing up the magnificent steps up towards the church!

Atrani
Neighbour to Amalfi yet a lot less touristy. A great day trip to enjoy the cute beach and to explore Amalfi or Ravello in Parallel.
The Beach
The beach at Atrani is really cute and a nice spot to relax in! There is a small public beach or two beach clubs that offer beds you can hire for the day. We found this to be the only you could get a discount on beds, so why not ask!
Lunch or dinner at La Arcate
If you have chosen to do a day trip to Amalfi or Atrani we would defiantly recommend heading to Atrani for dinner and getting Pizza from La Arcate. Call ahead and make a reservation and you can ensure you get a table right next to the sea, it makes for a truly great experience. They are the only place in Atrani to still cook pizza in a wood-burning oven.
We chose to spend two days in Atrani and absolutely loved it!
Positano Day Trips: Ravello
The most beautiful place on the whole of the Amalfi coast, in our opinion! from Positano you can get the ferry to Amalfi and then a bus to Ravello, it is most defiantly worth it for the amazing gardens and jaw-dropping views! If you take just one place from this post, let it be Ravello, we promise you it is worth the time to experience this beautiful heart warming place.
Highlights of Ravello:
- Villa Rufolo for amazing Arabic themed gardens and architecture
- Villa Climbrone to experience the terrace of infinity (pictured below), and beautiful English inspired Gardens.
- Lunch at Villa Maria, for incredible views and impeccable service!

Positano Day Trips: Nocelle and The Path of the Gods
If you choose to do the path of the Gods from Bomberano to Positano this will be the end destination. It is a cute town with a different vibe to Positano. Because it is quite high up there are a lot fewer people and a welcome break from the crowds in Positano. You can get a bus directly from Positano to Nocelle, and given the number of steps to climb if you choose to walk, we would recommend the bus route! Even as two avid walkers, we regretted walking down the steps back to Positano!
Make a stop at Lemon point for the best fresh lemon and orange juice. The people who own this little stall are also so sweet and will give you loads of recommendations for places to eat for great local food.

Furore Fiord
Perhaps the most beautiful beach on the whole coastline! Used by red bull as a diving site because of its incredible height! The beach can be reached by the stairs at the side or by boat! You can hire a boat from Positano itself or get a taxi to drive you. It’s worth a day trip to spend your time relaxing on the beach or if time doesn’t permit, at least have a boat trip to this impressive sight.
We hope you enjoyed our guide to the best Positano day trips! Whilst Positano is certainly beautiful and has a lot to offer, you simply cannot miss out on experiencing other areas on the Amalfi Coast.
