Lahangan Sweet has to be one of the most photographed and videoed spots in Bali. You would have seen this picture on Instagram or YouTube at some point if you have been looking into visiting Bali. Despite its popularity, if you can make it here for first light you will have this place pretty much to yourself.
We sat on top of one of the platforms and watched the sunrise, with no time restriction, and no queuing and watching the sunrise over Mount Agung.
This blog will be your guide to making the most of your trip to Lahagan Sweet with all the information you will need. From how to get here, entrance fee’s and tips that helped us have an unforgettable experience.
Getting Your Best Pictures
There are several platforms dotting along the ridge all with Mount Agung in the backdrop. The single tree platform has to be the most famous. This platform has a ladder climbing up to the open platform if the wind is up; be careful, as it can be quite blowy up there.
The double tree platform is a little lower and has a set of wooden steps leading up to the platform with a handrail. The view is no less beautiful than the other platform, just a slightly different angle and backdrop of Agung.
There is also one large platform which has a walkway to it as well as side walls so it’s a lot safer and better for bugger crowds, younger children or older members.
On the other side of the ridge facing the sunrise and away from Mount Agung, there are three more platforms. This was a great place to sit and feel the sun on your skin after we had got our pictures and enjoyed the sunrise on the face of Mount Agung.
There is also a small temple wall and gate facing Mount Agung, which is a great view of the mounting between the two gates.
So even if there are others here when you arrive, there are plenty of other places to get pictures from while you wait to get onto the platform you want.
Getting to here.
By Scooter: This has to be the best way to get around, the area is so beautiful but by car this often fly past but on a scooter, you can stop and take in all the beautiful sights and surroundings.
Lahangan Sweet is located to the East of Bali around 2.30hrs travel from Canggu and Berawa areas. This spot is marked so you can follow the directions on Google Maps. Once the roads start to become smaller small signs point you in the right direction to the main entrance.
But if this seems too far away for a single trip we recommend spending a few nights in Amed. From here you are only 25-30 minutes away and can stay on the beachfront with a view of Mount Agung.
By Car: If you do not drive a scooter, don’t have a license or just enjoy being driven around you can get a private driver to take you there. The advantage of this is you add additional destinations to your trip and explore more of what Bali has to offer away from the South.
Best time to visit.
We got here for the first light and were the only people here and had the place to ourselves for 30 minutes or so.
The office officially opens at 6 am so please keep this in mind. We took a little risk and arrived before opening and got waved up by the guard. So if you don’t mind risking getting here 15-20 minutes early to be here for first light I would recommend but be prepared you might have to wait till 6 am.
Getting to the top.
If you arrive by car, you are told to park at the bottom, and you can either walk up the steep path around 800m to the top you can pay to get in the off-road vehicles that take you up to the top.
If you are getting here by bike, you can also park at the bottom with the cars and get the lift up. Or if you feel comfortable enough on your bike, you can head up 2/3rds of the way up to a bike parking area. And walk the final 3rd. Or like us, if you’re here before the sun comes up and you don’t see the sign, you may drive up as far as the bike can take you before the road gets too crazy and decide it is safer to walk the rest, haha.
Entrance fee.
To get into the park it is 50.000 each. If you are here on a Kitas visa, you get in for 40.000 each. For the lift to the top and back down by the jeeps, there is an additional charge for each person.
For locals this entrance fee is FREE and you come and visit this beautiful site overlooking Mount Agung and the surrounding areas.
Drones and Professional shots.
You can bring all the gear you would like or need. There is currently no restriction on drones and no additional payments for professional shots but this is a public space so please be respectful and observe safety when flying.
Additional tips when visiting.
Being located on the mountain ridge the temperature can be pretty cold especially when leaving early so bring plenty of warm clothes.
The paths and roads are left natural so they can become slippy and muddy when it rains. You do not need hiking shoes but something with some grip would be ideal.
There is a small warung on the mountaintop near the platforms but their options are limited and were not open when we was here in the early hours of the day. So bring your water and snacks if you need them.
